Internship at The Writers’ Centre

November 15, 2007

SCWC Director Ali Smith and SCWC intern Laura Stafford

I feel like over the two week period I have gone from having very little idea what publishing was, to being inspired to do a internship with a Melbourne publishing company and then try to further this with some experience overseas.

Apart from the internship benefiting me, Ali also set me up with a task which will hopefully add another dimension to the Writers centre.

In the last two weeks I have been researching and creating a proposal on an exciting event in the field of history and inspire writers to write about the unique and diverse history of the Illawarra region.

Personally, having not grown up in Wollongong, when researching for the History project I found out so much about the area and what great resources there are in places like the Wollongong Library. So if any of you enjoy history you might like to get involved with this project and learn some more about the Illawarra.

The Writers Centre seems like a fun and vibrant environment to be writing in. And you never know maybe one day I’ll actually get to publish a piece of your writing!

Lastly I’d really like to thank Ali, who always took time out to check what I was writing and help me with the different projects.
